In addition, the location is absolutely beautiful and inspiring on its own. Most of the teachers are really supportive and reach out to students outside of class hours. However, diversity was poor. All his teachers are responsive. They gave him a 504 with no issues and made accommodations to fit his needs. Speaking of support, the student environment is unparalleled. We love that St. Peter's finds a beautiful way of blending our Catholic faith and values with strong academic excellence in every grade and at every stage on a daily basis. They care so much about the well being of the students. The students are a mixed bag, but there’s a place for everybody. Although it all sounds great, Okemos High School is a highly driven school, with students that try to excel at everything. More diversity and inclusion would also encourage students to explore new cultures, as well. Because of this, I find that stress, depression, or anxiety is common among students. These activities allow our students to participate in competitions and win prizes. The biggest thing I could hope for is a wider range of available subjects, or more freedom to pick our IB courses, because the school, despite being a liberal arts high school, leans heavily into History and Literature as mandatory courses and leaves STEM students with limited options to explore. The students at South are friendly and the environment is safe. Moving from another state was challenging for my son, but the environment at South is welcoming. Many of the teachers are very dedicated to their job and excel in preparing students with the knowledge and skills they’ll need for college, while also not being uber traditional. He is currently a senior. It is important for student to establish relationships with these teachers. Many negative reviews state simply negative aspects of the school without support. The THS community is quite diverse as well, with a large Asian population at the school. The size of the school allows for students to develop meaningful relationships with teachers, and they're always really supportive. The facilities are the biggest issue for me, as the bathrooms have been pretty disgusting oftentimes and some closed for maintenance for months on end. As far as rigor goes, this school is understandably harder than the surrounding public schools: it is a college prep after all. Excellence, in this situation, is only as high as its, well, least excellent students - and, in this case, some aspects of the review are, in fact, true.Other reviews don't do the institution justice.
This school has pushed me to always do my best academically. Students can also form clubs of their own as well. Students are encouraged to do their best, but my son isn't overwhelmed.
