You are interested in the processes that shape the Earth- A Geologist not only studies rocks and minerals but also studies how certain factors like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and floods can help shape the surface of the Earth as well. I want my life to be one long Field Trip, full of awesomeness, rocks & beer.After college I decided I hated everything, and cancelled my UCAS application. From Italy we went to France, and then crossed the Channel to England. I’m now a second year student and I’m happier than ever. I saw this on trips to the beach when I saw the chalk cliffs of the Sussex coast towering above me. In one there is a clear unconformity – Triassic rocks are lying on carboniferous rock so that with two hands you can bridge 90 million years of geological history and deduce what the climate and other conditions were at the time.Here there is a range of rocks from the Devonian to the Carboniferous. WIRED 56,716 views. Why I Love Geology [repost] It’s a bit of a long story really – I suppose I have my dad to blame for it too (like lots of things). This was a revelation – not all rocks were as white and soft as chalk.So the obvious thing to do now was to work hard at school, get three good ‘A’ levels and then choose a University such as Durham which is known for teaching Earth Sciences and is surrounded by interesting geology.I took my GCEs, left school without knowing the results and joined the Royal Navy – against all advice and ‘insistence’ from the school and my parents. This what I was born for, “Tell lies and write them down”. He enjoyed gardening and was slowly cultivating his expertise in growing vegetables. I may moan a lot, I may rant a lot, I may claim to hate the tutors a lot, but they’re all good eggs, and it’s a great department. I now knew what I didn’t know and I could teach myself that with a lot of research.I graduated at a ceremony at Poole at the age of 68, a lifetimes ambition fulfilled and no, I wasn’t the oldest one there! I can remember going out into the desert with my family and our trusty 1984 left hand drive white Range Rover ‘Foggy’ (which we still have). Absolutely brilliant! Powered by The start.
