I love Rotring pencils. Glad you enjoyed the review though!
Big fan, returned this one because i meant to order the .5mm but the pencil is brilliant. And yes this twist mechanism does work; however, when you try to write with the pencil you will notice a lot of play in the metal tip.
I have a pencil from my college days 2010-2011 that is still working that I spent less than $2. This is true but not enough for me to complain. It writes smoothly and it feels good to grip.
Nicest Pencil I have owned but no longer works.
There is a little bit of movement. However, I did come across some posts on the Internet (including Amazon comments) that Newell Rubbermaid / Sanford modified the 800 and introduced a metal piece in place of plastic on the lead advance mechanism. Secondly, if by some stroke of luck I do get the lead to advance when clicking the plunger, the mechanism that holds the lead in place while writing doesnt seem to be working. It breaks lead on a regular basis. So I upgraded to the 800 with the retractable tip.
rOtring 800+ Mechanical Pencil and Stylus Review - and EPIC JetPens/Dudek Giveaway August 12, 2014 When JetPens offered me the opportunity to review the new rOtring 800+ mechanical pencil and stylus, the rOtring obsession part of my brain tingled and instantly went into "excited" mode. !Its the pen you wanted it to be, the pen i made it to be, and most importantly, the pen it never should have not been….
Uni 2B nanodia lead all i can say is WHOOOOOOO!!! The only drawback is the price.
Read honest and unbiased product reviews from our users. The pencil comes in a small, compact, triangular shaped cardboard box.
The Rotring 800 looks like a quality instrument. Little heavier than i expected but truly a great pencil that's really well finished. The approximately 50% price premium is … The pencil comes in a small, compact, triangular shaped cardboard box. Having said all this it pains me to have to leave a negative review on the Rotring 800, but what can I say? A pencil blogger said he was indifferent about the change, as he hadn’t noticed any degradation of the plastic on his 800. Overall, the decision between the Rotring 600 and the Rotring 800 was not a difficult one for me. It hasn’t loosened up at all, but I have to admit it’s not a daily writer.
I Love how the Pencil works.
Also information about rOtring on the bottom of the box. This is true but not enough for me to complain.
... the Rotring 800 I wasn't sure that I would like this pencilReading the mixed reviews on the Rotring 800 I wasn't sure that I would like this pencil.
@Joseph – You are probably right that I just got a bad one, but it sounds like there are a good number of bad ones out there.
Take a look at the pilot S10/S20 series.
Although prices vary, the 800 costs about $15-$20 more than the 600, and when the tip of the 800 cannot be repaired a new pencil must be bought.
However, sometimes the lead does not pump out from the chamber and I have to disassemble it to fix it.
Rotring 800+ Mechanical Pencil Review There are many excellent drafting pencils on the market but none with the name recognition and history of the Rotring brand.
In person this pencil looks anything but cheap.
Fixed lead guidance sleeve preventing break and offering an unimpeded view of the page for precise ruler-based drawing. The mechanism that extends the sleeve has a satisfied spring. The model takes into account factors including the age of a rating, whether the ratings are from verified purchasers, and factors that establish reviewer trustworthiness. This page works best with JavaScript. Also looking at the photos I thought the gold accents looked cheap. It felt “right” when twisting to extend / retract the tip or clicking to advance the lead.I currently use the eSharp or Kuru Toga when I need a pencil.
Look elsewhere if you need a mechanical pencil. I need to be able to carry the pencil in my shirt pocket or planner as well. One of the main concerns people have with the 800 is the sleeve.
