Fresh, mellow umami and zesty lime We use cookies to ensure that we give you the best experience on our website. 西ロンドンの人気住宅街ケンザル・エリアの裏路地に、文字通りひっそりと佇むオールデー・ガストロパブは2012年秋のオープン。冒険心あふれるガストロ・メニューとアーティなデコレーションで、またたくまにカラフルな人気者に。周辺のスノッブなご近所たちにとっては欠かせない存在となっています。まず目を引くのはハンサムなフロント・イメージ。直線が目立つシンプル・モダンな建築に、アールデコ調のサインとボタニカルなロゴが見事に映えています。中に入るとまず広々としたバー・エリアが広がり、クールなご近所たちがラップトップで仕事をしていたり若いカップルがクラフト・ビールを飲んでいたりします。その奥には興味深いガストロ・メニューを落ちついていただける素敵なダイニング・スペースが♪テーブルに座って飲み物の注文が終わるとやってきたのは、まぁるい自家製ソーダ・ブレッド！ イーストを入れずにすぐに焼いてしまうソーダ・ブレッドは、ともするとボソボソの仕上がりで美味しくないこともたまにあるのですが、ここのはご覧のように全粒粉入りなのかブラウンに色づき、しっかりした噛み応え＋しっとり感もあって滋味あふれる味わい☆ ノッティング・ヒルにあるキャラクターたっぷりのガストロパブ、Mall Tavernと同じチームが運営しているだけあり、あそこで出されるソーダ・ブレッドと似ています。ブルーチーズのカスタードは、じっさい、甘いクランブルがトッピングされているのですが、これはやり過ぎかも ^^; 野菜はもうちょい新鮮でもよかった。この日試してみたのは、クリのペースト入りのフモス、ブルーチーズのカスタード＋生野菜、チキン・キエフなどなど。クリのペースト入りフモスはおそらくバルサミコか何かが入っていて、少し酸味のあるなめらかペースト。初めていただく味で、箸休めにいい感じでした。それとブルーチーズのカスタードにディップしていただく生野菜もしかり、ここは料理になるべく色を取り入れることに注力しているんですね。このボール状のチキン・キエフはナイフを入れるとじゅわ〜っとハーブ・バターが中から染み出してきて、エンターテインメント性も抜群。クラシックなものとはひと味違うまん丸い形がグッドで、下には上品なポテトのハッシュと千切り野菜が敷かれています。これらが全てハーブ・バターを吸ってまろやかなお味に♪ とても美味しくいただいた一品でした ^^料理は概して驚きのファクターが強い創作風であり、シェフのクリエイティビティが冴えています。一言添えるなら、ブルーチーズのカスタードにディップして食べる野菜は生だけに、もう少し新鮮なものを選び、かつ下処理をしてあったら、もっとよかったなと思いました。もっと新鮮だったら下処理も気にならなかったかもしれないですが。この日はソーダ・ブレッドでお腹いっぱいになってしまいデザートは頼まなかったのですが、どうやらデザートの面白さも際立っているらしいので、次回はぜひぜひ甘いものも試してみたいと思います ^^バーカウンターの裏にはさらにダイニング・スペースがあり、食事を楽しむ人でにぎわっていました。大人数のプライベート・ハイヤーにちょうどよさそうな空間かもしれません。そして！ メイン・ダイニングの奥にはとても素敵なガーデンがあります！ これからの季節、たまらなく素敵なアルフレスコ・ダイニングができそう♪ 近所に住んでいない限り頻繁には来ないかもしれない場所ですが、でもまた必ず来てみたい！ そんなふうに思わせる強い魅力のあるパブです。岡山県倉敷市出身。ロンドンを拠点に活動するライター、編集者。東京の文芸系出版社勤務、雑誌編集・ライターを経て、1998年渡英。英系広告代理店にて各種媒体の翻訳ローカライズや日本語コピーライティングを担当。日本語翻訳リライトのスペシャリスト。2009年からフリーランス。趣味の食べ歩きブログが人気となり『歩いてまわる小さなロンドン』（大和書房）を出版。2014年に「あぶそる〜とロンドン / Absolute London」を立ち上げ、編集長として「美食都市ロンドン」の普及にいそしむかたわら、オルタナティブな生活、人間の可能性について模索中。あぶそる〜とロンドンが選ぶ『ロンドンでしたい100のこと』（自由国民社）を2018年に上梓。Copyright ©Absolute London 2014.
