Like most animes the first few episodes are hard to understand.
I have to say that this DVD series is somewhat frustrating. Watch. Pre-Owned.
The 45-minute film carries a lot of baggage, thanks mostly to the long history of its director's mean-spirited commentary towards colleagues, otaku, and even assault victims. I just wish I could say the same for the characters. I love the realistic orbital mechanics. I've watched PLANETES volume 1, and it's a mixed bag of anime, at best.

There are anime series out there with better action, more liberal use of humor, and more consistently intense drama and character interaction than Planetes. $8.99.
