HDHomeRun PRIME supports CableCARD&trade conditional access, providing access to the premium cable channels from your PC.
The HDHomeRun can be controlled and viewed from a wide variety of DVR/PVR software. HDHomeRun CONNECT would not be usable with these providers – you would need to utilize an antenna in order to receive over the air broadcasts (if available), or instead use HDHomeRun PRIME along with a CableCARD from the provider. Microsoft provides Windows Media Center for Windows XP through 8, but discontinued the product in Windows 10. The HDHomeRun DVR software works with HDHomeRun tuners (CONNECT, EXTEND, EXPAND, PRIME) to record to your Mac, Windows 10/UWP, or NAS, with playback on your Mac, Windows 10/UWP, Android Mobile, Android Media devices and iOS devices (minimum version 11.0 for the above listed tuners – does not work with legacy products).
Unless their hardware and software does EXACTLY what you need it to do right now, don't buy! The six tuner replacement for this model was announced at CES2018 to be shipping "no later than mid-year". It is not compatible with cable systems that do not use CableCARD, including most in Canada and all in Europe.
