It got me all excited to see how he was going to develop the way Jesus changed the landscape of western civilization, and then as soon as he started getting into the text of the Bible, it's all this liberal theology. I have never, ever thought anything even remotely like that before. Never fear, soldier on to the end and I think you will find it was worth it.The book does a good job of: gaining a better understanding of St Paul; explaining how Christian philosophy permeates modern democratic principles and finally creates an argument for the relevance of Christianity in a modern culture. wonderful book! Gave me a better understanding of the scriptures and the early days of the first believers. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Ignore the detractors!

Made me want to study more carefully the teachings of Paul.I actually started taking notes while I was reading this book for 2 reasons. If you want a down to earth fresh look at the Life of Christ pick up "Desire of the Everlasting Hills". Cahill, by the way, is a big fan of Paul, and he thinks that epistile writer was a big believer in equal rights for women, as well as a non-governmental communist. Cahill is a believer, but he's a scholar as well, and he points out that not everything taken for granted as dogma was understood as such at every stage of development. His conclusion is unequivocal.
