Flawless execution - a must for any sci-fi reader.Follow up novels are seldom as good as the original, this is the exception. If you want a truly epic and far reaching story, read Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars trilogy. Don't remember much about it, was probably fantastic.This is a second mission to mars.
It's probably because the scene was set in the first book with all the necessary technological explanations.
All in all, a decent read if you liked the first... but it will be a while before I dive into the third in this trilogy.I read this book years ago not knowing it was the second in a series till the end.

Both books are good, although the first is somewhat stronger.There have been many books of the first landing on Mars. Some fun ideas, certainly not a classic like many of Bova's others, but I would recommend it.Enjoyable read. I have yet to be disappointed by a Ben Bova novel.
